Update:
As of October 1, 2007, the eligibility criteria for
a non-inmate pardon has changed!
Public
Act 07-57—s (Senate Bill 170) specifies that the
Board of Pardons and Paroles can accept pardon
applications:
(1) three
years after a person's conviction of a misdemeanor
or violation or
(2) five
years after a person's felony conviction
The
act allows the board to accept an application
before these dates in extraordinary circumstances.
Under board policy, the board does not accept
applications until five years after a person
completes the sentence for the crime.
EFFECTIVE
DATE: October 1, 2007
**This
is a change from current policy. Prior to October 1,
2007, applicants had to wait until five years after
the completion of any sentence, plus the term of
their parole or probation. This act states that
applications can be submitted five years after the
conviction date for the crime. For
further clarification, please call the Board of
Pardons and Parole**
